Are Leeds United missing a great opportunity with this former player?

Leeds United have endured a turbulent start to the transfer window, it’s fair to say, failing to push deals for several major transfer targets over the line for a host of reasons.

Moves for attacking targets Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez fell through late on, while speculation surrounding deals for physical strikers Jerry Mbakogu and Jonathan Kodjia has gone quiet of late.

Couple that up with failed bids for David Stockdale and Angus Gunn in between the sticks following the release of Andy Lonergan and sale of Felix Wiedwald and it’s easy to see why Leeds fans are getting frustrated.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for the Whites though, with moves for Jamal Blackman and Jordan Hugill edging closer and closer to completion. But, the club could be set to miss out on a huge opportunity to bring back former player Sam Byram.

The 24-year-old right-back is currently being frozen out of Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team squad and is set for an exit this summer, with divisional rivals Nottingham Forest keen on securing the services of the Thurrock-born full-back.

With usual first-choice right-back Luke Ayling on the sidelines with a serious injury, bringing back Byram would be a no-brainer, be it on a season-long loan deal or on a permanent basis.

Byram made 143 appearances for the Whites between 2012 and 2015, establishing himself as a fans favourite and one of the best defenders in the division, but Marcelo Bielsa would have to move fast to secure a fairy-tale reunion.
