Sheffield Wednesday open pre-season with win over Lincoln City

Sheffield Wednesday have opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win over Lincoln City.

Later than most teams, Wednesday started their pre-season last night with their trip to Lincoln City. Lincoln started their pre-season off with a match against another Sky Bet Championship side but that was disappointing as they lost 3-1.

While there were no goals in the first half, both sides had chances which easily could have given them the lead. Wednesday defenders Jack Lee and Jordan Thorniley both could have got manager impressing goals when they missed their headers while new Lincoln signing John Akinde also missed a couple of chances at the other end.

In the second half, Wednesday showed their Championship with the only goal of the game. Liam Palmer hit the ball across the field and Fernando Forestieri controlled the ball well before curling the ball into the far bottom corner. It would be the only goal of the game and while they may have wanted a bigger win against a Sky Bet League Two side, they would have been happy to return to South Yorkshire with a confidence boosting win. Lincoln however will be happy to do very well against a Championship side.

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a trip against Mansfield Town on the 24th July. Their Sky Bet Championship opener is against Wigan Athletic. Lincoln City’s next friendly will be against Blackburn Rovers on the 22nd July after they had to cancel their friendly against Lincoln United due to the recent hot weather. Their Sky Bet League Two opener will be against be against Northampton Town.
