Swansea City complete deal for Sunderland striker

Swansea City have signed Joel Asoro from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

Following their relegation from the Sky Bet Championship, Sunderland have been looking to sell many of their players due to the inevitable cut in revenue they will get. But even though the Black Cats were probably thinking that they would just sell some of the bigger name players on high wages, they have also been forced to sell players who may have had a shot at making the first team this season.

One of those players is Asoro who has now moved to Swansea after signing a four-year contract with them. Their new head coach Graham Potter, who managed in Sweden before coming to South Wales, has been a big fan of Asoro for a while and will be delighted to have landed him on a long-term deal. The 19-year-old striker, who can also play on the wings, has been admired since he was playing in his native Sweden and with this move he’ll hope to get regular first team football.

After signing for Swansea, Asoro said: “It feels very, very good to be at this club,”

“I have watched Swansea play in the Premier League and I enjoyed seeing them play football. That’s the way I like to play football too.

“They love to hold on to the ball. I like that – being part of a possession team is very enjoyable.

“It was not easy for me to leave Sunderland. I came over from Sweden to join them when I was only 15. It was a bit hard, but I wanted a new challenge.”
