Sunderland launch move for Bradford City striker

Sunderland have made a bid for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats are in the hunt for a striker and have made their move for Wyke. Their fellow League One side Peterborough United also made a bid to sign him earlier this week.

The 25-year-old has been in decent goal scoring form for the Bantams over recent seasons and could be rewarded with a big-money move this summer. Sunderland are looking for a forward to fire them back into the Championship and Wyke could be their man as he is proven in the third tier.

Wyke started his career at his local team Middlesbrough but never made a senior appearance for the Riverside club. Instead, he gained early first-team experience during loan spells at Kettering, Hartlepool United and AFC Wimbledon.

He left Middlesbrough on a permanent basis in January 2015 to join League Two side Carlisle United. Wyke was prolific for the Cumbrians and scored 39 goals in 89 games for them. This earned him a move to Bradford City in January 2017 and he has bagged 19 goals for them since his transfer.

There has been plenty of interest in Wyke this summer from the likes of Peterborough, Preston North End, Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers so there will no doubt be competition to Sunderland to land him. One thing that is for certain is that it will be hard for Bradford to keep hold of him with his contract expiring at the end of next season.
