West Brom in talks to land Sheffield United goalkeeper

West Bromwich Albion are in talks to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Simon Moore, according to Football Insider.

The Baggies are in the hunt for another goalkeeper after selling Ben Foster to Watford and the departure of Boaz Myhill on a free transfer.

They have already signed Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who spent last season on loan at their Midlands rivals Aston Villa in the Championship, but now want Sheffield United’s Simon Moore to provide more competition and depth to this position.

Moore, 28, has played for the Blades since August 2016 and helped them win the League One title under Chris Wilder in his first season in Sheffield. He was then in and out of the team last season in the second tier as he fought for the number one spot with Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman.

Sheffield United have loaned Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson for next season and he will be their number one. Therefore, this does free up Simon Moore to leave the club this summer.

Moore started his career in non-league at Brading Town and Farnborough after a brief stint at Southampton as a youngster. He was snapped up by Brentford in 2009 and went onto play 77 games for them before he was signed by Cardiff City in July 2013.

He struggled to nail down the number one spot at Cardiff and managed 17 games in three seasons, as well as a loan stint at Bristol City before moving to Sheffield United for around £500,000 in 2016.

Simon Moore is a talented ‘keeper and would be a shrewd signing by West Brom.
