Byram, Leeds United should hijack Nottingham Forest’s bid for Premier League defender

Leeds United should hijack Nottingham Forest’s bid for Premier League defender

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing West Ham United defender Sam Byram, but talks are currently on hold while the Hammers find a replacement for the former Leeds United man.

The 24-year-old left Elland Road in January 2016 for an undisclosed fee after graduating through the youth academy at the Yorkshire club.

However, things have not quite worked out for Byram at the London club, and he is looking to move on in order to revitalize his career.

It is Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest who are the favourites to sign him as they look to mount a promotion push in the second tier. It’s fair to say that they are looking good so far, but the signing of Byram would be a real statement of intent.

Byram is expected to be available at a relatively cheap price…so it begs the question, why don’t Leeds United get involved?

Byram enjoyed a successful 11 years at the Yorkshire club, and Leeds fans would more than certainly welcome him back with open arms.

He appeared 130 times for the Leeds United first team and was a firm fans favourite during his time at the club.

There is no doubt that Leeds United would be able to afford the transfer fee, as Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly been given £20 million to spend this summer, but whether or not they could reach Byram’s wage demands remain to be seen.

He would fit the Bielsa style of play perfectly, and would provide a real attacking threat down Leeds United’s right hand side.
