Carlisle “close” to new signings – Ex-Leeds and Manchester United men continue trial

Carlisle United are on the brink of new signings, new boss John Sheridan has confirmed. It hasn’t been the most productive of widows so far, a goalkeeper and some trialists as good as it’s got really, although all three have potential.

Charlie Scott and Lewis Walters are currently at the club and looking to bag contracts and if they perform to their level then that shouldn’t be an issue. Lewis Walters, a product of the Leeds United academy has been released by Nottingham Forest is a talented winger who could really flourish if given the chance of regular first-team football.

At both Leeds and Nottingham Forest he was highly regarded but chances have been non-existent. At some stage he will need to drop to play, this could be his opportunity.

Manchester United produced Charlie Scott, a player who can operate comfortably in a couple of positions including at the back or his preferred role of a holding midfield player. He joined Hamilton Accies on loan last season but only managed two first-team appearances.

He’s another, like Walters who could really flourish with some good coaching coupled with first-team football. John Sheridan may well give them deals and look to push them into the rough and tumble of the Football League.

Sheridan has made no secret he wants new players and as reported today he has said deals are “close”. He has also said that the loan market will be a key area of recruitment which the United fans will accept.

At League Two level the club should be competing at the top end and under successful manager Sheridan you would expect that to happen this year. If he can get a few more deals over the line then the expectation can be matched by reality.
