Stoke City handed boost in pursuit of Premier League winger

Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United and Scotland winger Matt Ritchie.

The Potters had been interested in signing the 16 cap international for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million, but Newcastle were reluctant to sell until they signed a replacement.

And today, they may have done just that. They have confirmed that they have re-signed Chelsea winger Kenedy on a season long loan, perhaps freeing up Matt Ritchie for a move away from the club.

Here is the tweet from Newcastle United that confirmed the deal:

Stoke City are preparing for their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship after their ten year stay in the Premier League was ended last campaign.

A poor 2017/18 season left Stoke City in the bottom three and consequently they were relegated to the second tier of English football.

They are however the bookies’ favourites to bounce straight back up at the first time of asking, and when you look at their business so far in the transfer market, it is clear to see why.

Stoke have managed to keep hold of a number of their big name players, with the likes of Jack Butland and Joe Allen still on their books.

However, it looks likely that Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri will leave in the coming days to join Liverpool, but in Matt Ritchie they have an ideal replacement, and someone who has experience of earning promotion to the Premier League with two different teams.
