Liverpool in talks with Stoke City star

Champions League finalists Liverpool are in talks with Stoke City star Xherdan Shaqiri over a possible move to Anfield, according to Sky Sports.

The Merseyside club have been linked with a move for Shaqiri ever since the Potters suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Their ten year stay in the top flight was put to an end after a dreadful season, and many Stoke City accepted the fact that they would lose a number of their first team players.

That being said, the likes of Jack Butland and Ryan Shawcross remain on the books at the Bet 365 Stadium, but it seems that Xherdan Shaqiri is on his way out.

Following Stoke’s relegation, Shaqiri is expected to be available for a cut throat price of £13 million, which is £1 million more than Stoke City paid for him back in the summer of 2015.

Shaqiri arrived in England with plenty of hope and expectation on his back, but he never really delivered. Having played for European giants such as Inter Milan and Bayern Munich prior to his move, everyone expected him to take the Premier League by storm, and although he scored some excellent goals in his first season, things never really worked out, and he will be hoping to revitalise his career at Liverpool.

The sale of Shaqiri is unlikely to upset Stoke City fans too much, as they knew it was highly likely he would leave, especially after his performances at the FIFA World Cup in Russia impressed a number of Premier League managers, including Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho.
