Former Nottingham Forest youngster rejects Liverpool and Man United

Former Nottingham Forest youngster Matt Bondswell has rejected offers from both Manchester United and Liverpool in favour of a move abroad, according to the Nottingham Post.

The 16-year-old decided to leave the East Midlands club last month, and Nottingham Forest will be due some form of compensation wherever he ends it.

But it appears that his destination is not the Premier League, and instead he is expected to move to Germany to sign for RB Leipzig.

He is looking to follow in the footsteps of former Forest man Oliver Burke, who made the exact same move back in 2016. Things did not quite work out for Burke, who returned to England a year later to join West Bromwich Albion.

Bondswell will be hoping that things work out differently for him after he turned down offers from Liverpool and Manchester United. Both clubs were said to be extremely interested in securing his signature, as he is highly regarded and seen as one for the future, but it was not to be.

Bondswell has been at Nottingham Forest for the last eight years, playing for their youth academy, and it is fair to say it was not an easy decision to leave.

He was quoted by the Nottingham Post as saying:  “Sadly, my time has come to move onto a new chapter, however the club, the players, the coaches, the staff, everyone in the Forest family will always have a special place in my heart for the way they have helped me and treated me.”
