Sheffield Wednesday fans have reacted to the news that Jordan Rhodes has signed for Norwich City on a season-long loan.
One of the sagas of the summer is finally over. Ever since the season ended, reports have said that Rhodes is soon going to be leaving Wednesday. He has never really hit the form many expected him to do after signing for the Owls in January 2017 and ended up being outshined by both Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao in the second half of last season.
But while Norwich were interested in signing Rhodes on loan for a while, the saga has rolled on for weeks now. Wednesday had been very firm on wanting a £3m loan fee and all of Rhodes’ wages paying as they needed some help due to getting close to hitting their Financial Fair Play restrictions. Norwich did not want to pay that much but after weeks of negotiations and even reports the deal was off, the transfer was confirmed earlier today.
Many Wednesday fans had wanted him to leave before now, disappointed that Rhodes did not hit his Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers for them and knowing they needed some money in to make their own signings this summer. But now that the deal has been confirmed, there has been a mixed reaction. Most fans seem to agree that this was the right thing to do because of FFP but many were also disappointed that they were never able to see the Scottish international at his peak.

Jordan Rhodes is obviously a great lad and wish him all the best but…Carlos Carvalhal, less so. Joke of a manager. A dreadful legacy. #swfc

I get no pleasure out of Rhodes leaving… sad it didn’t work out. Nicest bloke in football… but as someone at the club said ‘maybe too nice’ #swfc
