It has emerged that Scunthorpe United’s pre-season has been a disaster. According to BBC sport reporter Mike White, on twitter, they have suffered up to six or seven injuries which is seriously affecting their pre-season plans
The players who are currently injured haven’t been named and nobody at the club is available to speak on the matter at the minute. Scunthorpe United currently only have a 20 man squad and if seven players are out injured, that leaves them with just 13 first team players.
With so many players out they’re going to need to bring in some emergency loans or permanent signings. Scunthorpe United have a very small budget and are doing extremely well to battle for promotion on such a regular basis. But with so many injuries and a disrupted pre-season could this be the season that finally sees them sink back down the League One table towards mid-table?
Scunthorpe United have lost in the League One play-off semi finals for the past two seasons, losing to MIllwall and Rotherham United.
This season will be Nick Daws’ first full season as Scunthorpe United. Following two very successful spells as interim manager he will be hoping his experience at the club will see him guide the Iron to another play-off challenging season.
Scunthorpe United are a very small club in comparison to other clubs in League one. With a tiny budget, small fan base and small squad size they’ll do very well to make the play-offs once again. Keep an eye on Scunthorpe United, the start Scunthorpe make to the new season will be absolutely vital and could shape their season. These injuries could cause serious long term problems.
