Swansea City midfielder targeted by Dutch side

Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord will look to sign Swansea City midfielder Leroy Fer if they are unable to keep hold of their highly rated midfielder Tonny Vilhena this summer.

According to Voetball International (via Inside Wales Sport), Vilhena is wanted by a number of the top clubs all around Europe, and Feyenoord have marked Leroy Fer as his replacement if he does depart.

Fer began his career at Feyenoord, spending eight years in the youth academy at the Dutch giants before going on to play over 100 games for their first team.

He left the club in 2011 for a deal reported to be somewhere in the region of £4 million, joining top flight rivals FC Twente.

Fer’s time in his native country came to an end in 2013, when he completed a move to Norwich City for £4.4 million.

Ever since then, he has played his football in England (or Wales), representing both Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, but it seems that his time here may be up.

Leroy Fer missed the second half of the 2017/18 season which saw Swansea City suffer relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship.

He suffered a serious injury, and was unable to play for the remainder of the season, missing out on the chance to help Swansea survive in the Premier League.

Interestingly, he is not one of the Swansea City players that has been heavily tipped with a move away from the club, but if he is the subject of interest from his boyhood club, he may find it difficult to say no.
