Leeds United should move for West Ham defender

Leeds United have been left noticeably short in terms of their defence ahead of the new season and although Swedish International Pontus Jansson is likely to command a spot in central defence ahead of the new Championship season, the club could do with another strong centre-back if they are to sustain a promotion challenge.

The Hull Daily Mail have reported this morning that Derby County are set to rival Hull City to try and win the signature of West Ham United defender Reece Burke, and the defender would be an excellent acquisition for Leeds United if they moved to sign the centre-back.

Given the fact that Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa enjoys expansive, open football, the fact that Burke is a ball-playing centre-half would most likely appeal to the Argentinian’s coaching philosophy and he would move to Elland Road with ready-made Football League experience.

It’s thought that Derby County are keen on bringing the defender to the iPro and manager Frank Lampard has made an ‘improved offer’ to try and encourage the defender to join the Rams ahead of the new season.

Burke has already gained a wealth of Football League experience, spending time on loan with Bradford City – where he won the Player of the Season Award, Wigan Athletic and most recently Bolton Wanderers.

Leeds United need to make moves in the transfer market and they need to do it quickly with under a month until the start of the new EFL season. Burke is proven in the division, he’s an exciting young talent and would be a great addition in the Whites’ backline, if Leeds have the cash, they really should make a move for him.
