Vieira, Leeds United midfielder tells Marcelo Bielsa how he wants to play

Leeds United midfielder tells Marcelo Bielsa how he wants to play

Leeds United’s Ronaldo Vieira has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants to play in a holding midfield position role.

In what must be a familiar feeling for Leeds players by now, they are now heading into pre-season with a brand new manager. One of the different things about this change though is that unlike some of their previous bosses like Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, new head coach Marcelo Bielsa comes with a massive international reputation from his reigns at the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Lazio.

But that doesn’t mean the players are afraid to tell Bielsa how they want to play. Vieira is hoping to get more first team appearances this season but even though he’d be happy just to get on the pitch, he has said that he hopes that Bielsa will play him in a holding midfield role, his favourite position to play and the one thinks he is the best in.

He said: “We are looking to get better and improve and the one thing I really want to do more is score more goals. We’ll see how that goes.”

“Every other manager that I have had has helped me improve a lot and I am just hoping and I am certain that the new gaffer will do the same not just for me but for everyone else.”

“Obviously we are trying to improve as individuals but also as a team in order to play better football together and if you do your stuff as a team then the individualism just comes easier really.”

“I don’t really know what the gaffer is thinking but I think everyone knows my choice of position and I like to play as a holding midfielder.”

“But if it comes to the case where I’d have to play a bit higher up the pitch or further down the pitch then it wouldn’t be a problem for anyone I think because we have all done it before.”

“We have all been through it and it’s nothing new really.”
