Leeds want £10 million Premier League striker – yes please

Leeds United are being heavily linked with west Ham Unites striker Jordan Hugill this morning. The ex-Preston North End target man hasn’t settled in the Premier League after his £6 million move from the Championship but it seemed like a step too far before it even happened.

In the Championship Hugill is a handful to say the least, in fact he’s more than that. He has a good record in front of goal and that was playing in a very average Preston North End side. West Ham seemed desperate to sign a striker from anywhere juts to appease the fans and it didn’t seem like Hugill was ever given a chance, a waste of talent from a club who didn’t seem concerned for anyone apart from themselves and their pockets.

His Preston record doesn’t look great on paper because it wasn’t until the last couple of years he came into his form. He isn’t a goalscoring machine in any way and I don’t think he ever will be, but what he does do he is the best, or was in the Championship.

He holds the ball up better than any striker at this level, wins headers and his awareness in linking play is top, goals aren’t everything, especially when you are looking to partner him with another target such as Matej Vydra.

Leeds need to start making progress in the transfer market but under the charge of Marcelo Bielsa there is a confidence, despite frustration about the window. Matej Vydra has become Leeds’ number one target this summer but it’s slow, there isn’t much progress but as with the deal, the one and only deal so far with Lewis Baker, Leeds are keeping their cards close to their chest.

Hugill is a player Leeds fans will like, he puts himself about and will graft for the side. This deal would make sense for both clubs and the player.
