Sheffield United fans have been jubilant for their former player Harry Maguire as he scored for England against Sweden in the World Cup.
Maguire came through the ranks of Sheffield United and was one of the players who prospered by them being relegated to Sky Bet League One, making the central defence his own after their drop into that league. After making over 100 appearances for the Blades, he would move to Hull City and since then he has signed for Leicester City.
Even though it has been many years since Maguire has played for Sheffield United, the club and their fans are still very proud of how well he has done since. He is now a regular in the England side and has impressed many in the World Cup so far with his performances with his passing from the back being particularly noted. And because of that it was no surprise that Maguire was named in an unchanged line up for their crunch quarter final match against Sweden.
And Maguire would score his first goal for England to put them ahead. The national side have been lethal from set pieces this summer and they showed that again as Maguire headed home from a Kieran Trippier corner to send the country into mad celebrations and refrains of Three Lions. And the United fans that remember him as a teenager stepping onto the field of Bramall Lane were celebrating even more as it was one of their own who had done it.
