Stoke City set to sign West Brom winger

Stoke City are set to sign West Bromwich Albion’s James McClean according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

Over the last few weeks there has been many reports that Stoke have been interested in signing McClean. He signed for the Baggies back in 2015 and while he has made 99 appearances for them, it appears that he is no longer wanted by head coach Darren Moore following their relegation from the Premier League last season. But even that, one of their fellow relegated sides looks to be the team that want to sign him.

The two teams have been discussing terms on the play and for a while they have been apart on the fee for the player. West Brom have been wanting £6m for the Republic of Ireland winger but Stoke have been unwilling to pay that. But according to this report a breakthrough is coming soon. The Potters are planning to make a bid of £4m and this report has indicated that this bid will be accepted.

Stoke are rebuilding he squad under new head coach Gary Rowett following their relegation from the Premier League. And McClean is looking an ideal signing for the club. He has shown in the past that he can devastate defences with his pace but he was never able to hit that form while at West Brom. While it may not seem so now, dropping down into the Championship to refind his form may actually be a blessing in disguise where he can show why he has been so highly rated.
