Reuben Reid brace bags Forest Green pre-season win

Reuben Reid scored both goals as Forest Green Rovers beat Brinscombe and Thrupp in a pre-season friendly.

Forest Green only just stayed in Sky Bet League Two last season and head coach Mark Cooper is keen for the team to get a good pre-season so they can be prepared to push up the table next season. And he will be very happy to see his side pick up a win which will surely boost their confidence.

And it didn’t take long until Cooper was shown how good his side could be this season. After just seven minutes, Reid, who is a proven goalscorer in the bottom tier of the EFL, was able get the ball in just enough space on the edge of the box before smashing the ball into the top corner with a strike that wouldn’t have been out of place at the World Cup.

And that wouldn’t be the only goal Reid got in this game. Later on in the first half, Carl Winchester was able to play Reid through and he was simple able to finish the ball past the goalkeeper to get his second of the night.

In the second half Forest Green made wholesale changes which is to be expected with friendlies this early on in pre-season. However things would stay the same as Forest Green were dominant though while Scott Laird and Theo Archibald went close, they wouldn’t score again and would have to be happy with the 2-0 win.

Forest Green’s next match will be against Torquay United on the 10th July.
