Leeds United loan striker thanks Whites for last season

He didn’t have the easiest of rides from Leeds United fans didn’t Jay-Roy Grot, but he took time out to thank the club for last season ahead of a season-long loan at Eredivisie side VVV Venlo.

The powerfully-built Holland Under-20 international signed for the Whites for a fee of around £1.5 million last summer, but struggled to make his mark stepping across from NEC Nijmegen and the Eredivisie to Leeds United and the Sky Bet Championship.

However, despite all that, Grot has taken the time to thank Leeds United for last season – this coming via the youngster’s Instagram account.

The Dutch youngster featured 19 times in the Sky Bet Championship for Leeds United in his début season in English football. He was utilised mainly as a substitute in these 19 appearances (295 minutes), only starting one game vs Preston – playing 68 minutes as a let-winger. He also scored his only goal for the Whites a few games earlier – scoring in a 2-1 home loss to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Going out on loan is perhaps the most sensible option for young Grot. It will allow him to gain regular football and hopefully mature ahead of a more successful return to Leeds United next season.

Meanwhile Leeds United will be looking to add further striking options to the club in the coming week as they look to kick-on under new manager Marcelo Bielsa. The Whites are still pursuing a deal for Derby County striker Matej Vydra, although a similar move for free agent Abel Hernandez might have been ruled out due to interest from CSKA Moscow that some sources are saying has firmed up into an offer.
