Could West Brom be set to try and hijack a move for Matej Vydra?

Reports have emerged that Leeds United’s deal for Matej Vydra may have slowed down slightly with the club supposedly evaluating other options in the transfer-market now such as Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga and Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia.

West Brom are also reportedly set to lose their star striker Salomon Rondon to Newcastle United in what is expected to be a record-breaking deal for the Premier League side, which will most likely mean that the Baggies are set to look out for a replacement striker for the club.

Given the fact that Leeds United’s deal with Derby County to bring Matej Vydra to Elland Road is supposedly at a crossroads, West Brom could have the opportunity to move in to sign the striker as they will be looking for a replacement with Rondon on his way out and the striker has been linked with a move to the Hawthorns during the transfer window so far by the Birmingham Mail.

Vydra actually featured for the Baggies during the 2013/14 season on a loan deal from Udinese, but only managed to score 3 goals in 23 games for the then Premier League side.

The striker impressed for Derby County last season, scoring 21 goals in 40 Championship games for the Rams, helping to fire them to the play-offs last season.

The rumours are that Frank Lampard has been told that he needs to cut his budget accordingly for the forthcoming season at Derby County, and it appears to be the case that selling Matej Vydra will free up the money to be able to do so.

Leeds United are thought to have greater spending power under the leadership of Marcelo Bielsa, with it being reported that the Argentinian is going to be given an eight-figure budget for the upcoming season.
