Former Manchester United midfielder linked with shock move to Wigan Athletic

Former Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson has started training with Wigan Athletic in what could be a shock move according to a report from The Sun.

The 30-year-old midfielder has shown himself to be a very capable midfielder over the years. He came through the Manchester United academy and was in and out of the first team there until moving to Everton in 2012. He would go on to spend five years at Goodison Park until heading to Sunderland. His time there was blighted with problems though as they suffered relegation to the Sky Bet Championship in his first season there.

He would stick with the club after their relegation but they decided to terminate his contract in March due to numerous issues which including criticising the fans and disciplinary problems. With this and other personal issues, some wondered that if any team would take a chance on Gibson again even with his free agency meaning he could be a bargain buy for someone.

But Wigan have decided to take a chance on him by allowing Gibson to train with them during pre-season with the potential of there being a contract at the end of it. And Gibson seems to realise that this is a big opportunity for him as reports suggest that he has been working very hard with Latics head coach Paul Cook being impressed with him. With Gibson having plenty of years left on his career, he will be very happy that he could soon be getting a contract at a club.
