Leeds United, West Brom and Nottingham Forest have been linked with a number of strikers during this transfer window but with prolific forwards seemingly sparse to come by, it’s been difficult for the clubs in question to bring in their transfer targets on the cheap.
Given Aston Villa’s financial woes and the fact that they need to sell their prized assets, Jonathan Kodjia would be a fantastic signing for any of the aforementioned clubs if they were to move for the striker, and the forward would most likely be available on-the-cheap after a struggling season in front of goal.
The Ivorian scored 20 goals in 48 games during his first season in the Championship with Bristol City and then bagged 19 goals in 36 games during his second season in the division for Aston Villa.
Last season, Kodjia struggled in front of goal and only managed one goal during 18 appearances for the Villians – however a move away from Villa Park could give him an opportunity to rediscover his goalscoring form and to become the main man once again for a Championship club targetting promotion.
Although an official price tag hasn’t been placed on the forward, he joined Villa for around £11 million in 2016 but given the fact that the club are desperate for money, if any of the clubs in question were to bid around £8/9m for the forward, they could well get an absolute bargain in what generally seems to be a hugely inflated transfer market.
We’ll see if anyone chooses to make an ambitious move for Kodjia, but it could be a masterstroke if somebody comes in and agrees on a deal for the forward.
