Sheffield United are interested in loaning Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, as reported by The72 earlier today. Here are five things to know about him-
Released by Rochdale as a youngster- Scott Hogan was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, and started his career at Rochdale. However, he was released by the North-West side at the end of the 2009/10 season after only being called up to the first-team once.
Worked his way up- Following his release from Rochdale, Hogan dropped into non-league and worked his way up from non-league after spells at Woodley Sports, FC Halifax Town, Mossley, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Ashton United and Hyde.
Back to Rochdale- After impressing in the lower reaches of the football pyramid, Rochdale moved to re-sign Hogan in 2013. The 26-year-old spent a single season back at Spotland in League Two and scored 19 goals in all competitions.
Step up to the Championship- Hogan was snapped up by Brentford in the Championship in 2014 for around £750,000 but his early career with the Bees was affected by injury. Nevertheless, he made his return and managed 21 goals in his next two seasons and earned a move to Aston Villa in January 2017. Hogan has bagged 8 goals for Villa since his move.
Republic of Ireland international- He is eligible to play for Ireland through his grandparents. Having previously been called up for their Under-21s but not featuring for them, Hogan gained his first cap for Ireland’s senior side and this came in a friendly against Turkey in March 2018 in which they lost 1-0.
