Sheffield United want loan deal for Aston Villa striker

Sheffield United are considering a loan move for Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

The Blades have so far landed Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in an impressive loan deal but now want to further bolster their squad by signing Scott Hogan on loan from Championship rivals Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old has struggled to hit top form since joining Aston Villa in January 2017 from Brentford. Hogan has so far scored a combined 8 league goals in his one-and-a-half years at Villa Park. It is yet to be known whether they are keen to offload him this summer on loan, so it is a waiting game for Sheffield United.

Hogan started his career in non-league and worked his way up the football pyramid. He had spells with Woodley Sports, FC Halifax Town, Mossley, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Ashton United and Hyde before he was snapped up by Rochdale in 2013.

He spent a season with in League Two and scored 19 goals for them in all competitions. This earned him a move to Brentford in July 2014 for a fee of around £750,000. His first season with the Bees was affected by injury but in his next two campaigns Hogan bagged an impressive combined 21 goals for Dean Smith’s side.

Hogan has yet to hit the ground running at Villa but would be a huge signing on loan for Sheffield United. Signing him would be a big statement of intent by the Blades as he is a proven goalscorer at this level.
