Huge blow for West Brom as key player leaves for Premier League

West Bromwich Albion have lost one of their most influential and experienced players tonight as goalkeeper Ben Foster has completed his expected move to the Premier League. Watford have bagged the 35-year old on an undisclosed fee.

Darren Moore wanted to keep Foster but it became quite apparent that he would probably head back to the Premier League despite enjoying some very good tomes at West Bromwich Albion. The veteran is arguably in the best spell of form in his career despite the relegation, but consistency can often override form even if it isn’t wonderful.

West Brom are in a rebuilding process both on and off the pitch and some of the better players were always going to leave this summer, that is inevitable for newly relegated Championship clubs and the same is currently happening at both Stoke City and Swansea as players return and talk of big moves hits the headlines.

Darren Moore has a huge job on his hands and making sure that some of the experienced players stay will be key. Foster is a blow despite knowing the transfer would go through at some point, a player such as Foster with his wealth of experience is great for young sides being built in the Championship.

For West Brom the ultimate goal is bouncing straight back to the Premier League but they know as well as anyone that isn’t straight forward and there will have to be some serious quality coming into the squad if any more of the bigger names leave in the coming weeks. Aston Villa and Sunderland are great examples of what Championship football can do to clubs who think they are destined to return at the first time of asking.

West Brom may now look to spend the money elsewhere in the squad as players begin to decide their future and clubs come calling.
