3 players Carlisle United could loan from Leeds United as Sheridan looks to the market

Carlisle United are a club who have expectation no matter what, the fan base want success but also understand that the league is very even. New manager John Sheridan brings new hope and also a pull factor, a popular player at Leeds. He has already made it clear he wants to utilise the loan market, and here are three players that could boost Carlisle’s promotion hopes.

Ryan Edmondson – Striker

Leeds have very high hopes for Ryan Edmondson. The young striker appeared in the final game of last season and it was widely regarded he may get his chance under Paul Heckingbottom this season. However Heckingbottom departed and Leeds appointed Marcelo Bielsa.

He already has first-team experience with York City but playing on a regular basis is key and he could well be heading out on loan. John Sheridan is obviously linked with Leeds United from his playing days and could do worse than loaning Edmondson for a season.

Paudie O’Connor – Centre-back

One player who is almost certainly heading on loan from Leeds United is Paudie O’Connor. He’s another who arrived at Leeds United and was placed in the under 23’s but already had first-team experience in the Irish League, playing for Limerick.

O’Connor has also played a handful of games in the first-team for Leeds as the defensive crisis was ramped up last season and he didn’t let the side down. He was one of the better players on every occasion he took to the field but he admitted a loan to lower league was key to his development this season.

Jack Clarke – Winger

It’s a huge season for Jack Clarke and whether or not he will be loaned out remains to be seen. The young winger has impressed massively in the under 23’s at Leeds United but he needs the chance to impress in a first-team environment but it may be too early, especially with Bielsa in charge.

Bielsa wants to use young players that are coming through the ranks at Leeds and perhaps the link to Sheridan and the fact he is keen on loans could benefit both clubs. Six-moth loan deals could work, with progression monitored at both ends.
