Bolton Wanderers are set to open talks with FC Porto’s Joao Carlos Teixeira according to a report from The Bolton News.
After playing for the likes of Braga and Sporting Lisbon as a youngster, Teixeira would head to England and sign for Liverpool in 2013. Despite there being high hopes for him, he struggled to break into the Liverpool first team, only making two league appearances for them. He also had a flop loan at Brentford and a more successful stint with Brighton and Hove Albion. In 2016 he would sign for FC Porto and head back to Portugal. He has also been loaned out here and had a brief return to Braga because of it.
But it appears that his time with Porto is over with this report saying that Teixeira wants to return to England. And Bolton are the team hoping to bring him back to this country. They would love to have this exciting player on their books and will start talks with the club and player later this week. They are hoping to sign him on loan for the season with the view of a permanent deal later down the line.
That could be a sticking point though as Porto are wanting to sell Teixeira on a permanent deal, something that Bolton may not be able to afford at this time. This could allow one of their rivals to sneak in and sign the 25-year-old winger while Bolton try and get the deal they want. But at the moment, it is the Lancashire club who are the most likely to land him.
