Another step forward in Leeds United striker chase

Norweigan club Molde FK have tweeted that the club have signed Leeds United forward Pawel Cibicki on a six-month loan deal from the West-Yorkshire club.

The Swedish forward joined with Leeds United last summer but was only limited to 7 appearances for the West-Yorkshire club during his debut season in the Championship.

Cibicki moved to Leeds United from Swedish giants Malmö FF after making 57 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.

It was hoped that the 24-year-old would break into Leeds United’s team last season and that he would bring goals to a Leeds side that had to begin life without Chris Wood after the striker joined up with Premier League Burnley. Instead, Pierre-Michel Lasogga was often preferred up-front and Cibicki never really made his mark with the West-Yorkshire club.

The striker now has some time to enjoy some regular football with Molde FK in Norway and to begin building his confidence in front of goal over the next few months.

Leeds United are reportedly looking to bring in a forward in the coming weeks and with Cibicki’s move to Molde, it frees up some wages for any potential signing that Leeds United choose to make in the coming weeks.

It appears Matej Vydra is top of Leeds United’s wish-list for the forthcoming season, however, the striker won’t come cheap and it’s thought that to bring last seasons top-scorer in the Championship to Elland Road, it’ll cost the West-Yorkshire club around £11/£12 million in transfer fees.

Cibicki’s departure could be a big step forward in terms of freeing up wages and space for Vydra to make a move to Elland Road – you would think.
