Blackburn Rovers fans react to Darragh Lenihan signing a new long-term contract

Blackburn Rovers have announced that Darragh Lenihan has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Blackburn Rovers have announced that defender Darragh Lenihan has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The defender has signed a new four-year deal, which will keep him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2022.

Lenihan joined Blackburn’s Academy from Belvedere in Dublin in 2011, and the defender has managed to make 88 appearances for the club.

The youngster unfortunately missed a large part of the 2017-18 season with a metatarsal injury picked up on the opening day at Southend, but did manage to return to play a key role in Blackburn’s promotion back to the Championship.

The 24-year-old scored his first goal for the club in the final day win over Oxford United in front of 28,000 fans at Ewood Park, before receiving an international call up with the Republic of Ireland a few weeks later.

The news represents further good business by Blackburn, who this summer have already agreed new contracts with experienced duo Danny Graham and Craig Conway, as well as signing highly-rated midfielders Joe Rothwell and Jacob Davenport.
