Sheffield Wednesday manager refuses to state promotion as aim for this season

Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has declined to state whether or not promotion is his aim this season when asked by the Sheffield Star.

Luhukay became the Wednesday manager back in January with the simple task of making sure the club didn’t slip into a relegation battle. He achieved that as despite a stuttering start, the club did get going towards the end of the season and any nerves of club being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship soon subsided.

Now attention turns to this season. With Wednesday making it into the play-offs two out of the last three seasons, fans are hoping that last year was a blip and they will get back to challenging for promotion to the Premier League. And while at fan festival Owls in the Park, Luhukay was asked whether or not that was his aim for this season. But the Dutchman kept quiet, simply saying his aim was to improve on last year.

He said: “The target is that we will try to do better than last season.”

“We will play good football and we will train every day to develop and make progression from the first game in the new season.”

“We have made fantastic progression in the last two and a half months,”

“The players have a lot of confidence and they trust each other.”

“It is good that we have that and we must look positively to the start of the season. We have a lot of quality in the team.”
