Rodwell, Bolton Wanderers start talks with Sunderland flop

Bolton Wanderers start talks with Sunderland flop

Bolton Wanderers have started talks with Jack Rodwell according to a report from The Sun.

Rodwell is currently a free agent after coming to terms with his release at Sunderland where he played for four years. This was a disastrous spell where he struggled to hit form and was unable to stop them being relegated to the Sky Bet Championship. He barely played last season as the Black Cats were once again relegated and became the symbol for the waste of money signings that had gotten Sunderland into the mess they are now. That’s why there were celebrations on Wearside when his departure was confirmed.

But he was once regarded as one of the top talents in the country. His form for Everton as a youngster led many to say that he would be a future England star and if you go back to 2010 you’ll find many columnists saying he would be a regular for the 2018 World Cup. And so despite a horrific spell with Sunderland, it’s no surprise that teams are interested in him as they believe they can bring out that unrealised potential.

And after several links to the MLS and Greek side Aris, Rodwell does have the choice to stay in England as Bolton are in talks with the midfielder. He would have to take a massive reduction in wages on what he was on at Sunderland but that may have been a given considering how his reputation has tanked while being at the Stadium of Light. But with Bolton likely offering less money than their rivals, it would be a tough one to pull off.
