Coventry reject £500,000 Championship bid for star striker

Sky Sports reports that Reading have seen two bids rejected for Coventry City striker Marc McNulty. The second offer was believed to be in excess of £500,000. The Sky Blues are said to rate the player considerably higher that this price.

Coventry defeated Exeter City at Wembley on a sunny afternoon in May to secure their spot in Sky Bet League One for the upcoming season. A big reason for that was the exploits of McNulty, who netted 28 goals in all competitions for Mark Robins’ side.

As for Reading, they are very much looking to add goals to their roster after struggling against relegation last year. Paul Clement is heading into his first pre season at the helm, and has identified the strike force as a position that needs improving upon. The forward line looks even more sparse after the likes of Deniss Rakels and Joseph Mendes departed having not been offered a new contract at the Madejski Stadium.

Coventry very much would love to retain the talented forward given the impression he made last season especially. Since joining on a free transfer at the start of last season, he hasn’t looked back. Should Coventry eventually cash in on the player, he is not easily replaceable. Sky Blues fans therefore will be delighted to see the club reject the big fee. However, every player has his price, so it remains to be seen how much Reading really want the 26-year-old. The former Sheffield United and Livingston striker is clearly a man in demand, and his destination next season still is a slight question mark.
