Leeds United closing in on signing goalkeeper – Bielsa’s first signing?

Leeds United are trying to complete the loan signing of Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale, according to Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds have reportedly proposed a temporary loan deal but with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season, as Birmingham have decided to rule Stockdale out of their first-team plans.

Birmingham have been struggling to get rid of the goalkeeper, reports claimed that the reason behind this was Leeds not being able to match his wages of £40,000 a week.

But, Stockdale was quick to dismiss rumours of him earning £40,000 as he tweeted “I can 100% set the record straight I’m not on 40k a week”.

Birmingham will allow a move for Stockdale to depart the club ahead of next season providing their valuation is met as boss Garry Monk looks to push through an overhaul of the goalkeeping department.

Stockdale managed to keep six Championship clean sheets in 34 appearances last season and has two years remaining on his contract.

With Leeds appointing Marcelo Biesla, maybe Leeds will target Stockdale as Biesla’s first signing. He’s a proven Championship keeper and could be a steady pair of hands following Leeds having a disappointing campaign with goalkeepers.

Leeds United are also looking at Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

He is the son of iconic goalkeeper Bryan and Angus is a England Under-21 international who started his career in Norwich’s Academy before moving to join The Citizens’ youth setup in 2011.

Featuring regularly for their Development Squads, Gunn was named as a substitute for Pep Guardiola’s side on a number of occasions during the 2016-17 season.

Last season, Angus Gunn was on loan to Championship side Norwich City. He managed to make 51 appearances in all competitions and kept 16 clean sheets.
