Wigan defender rejects interest from Aston Villa

Wigan defender Dan Burn has been subject to interest from Aston Villa, but Burn has confirmed he wants to stay at Wigan, according to Wigan Today.

The defender signed for Wigan in July 2016 after his contract at Fulham expired, signing a three-year deal.

The 6ft 7ins defender was one of the few shining lights in a difficult debut season at the DW Stadium, and was voted virtually unanimously by the supporters as their Player of The Season in May 2017.

He is easily the most consistent player in a Wigan shirt, powerful and dominant in the air but with a succession of last ditch tackles to save the day.

The defender spoke to Wigan Today and said: “It’s just paper talk as far as I’m concerned”

“I’ve seen myself linked with teams every single summer of my career and nothing ever happens.”

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m a Wigan player, I’m enjoying it here, we’re just having our first child, I’m settled here.”

“But at the same time in football you can never say never”

The defender’s second season at Wigan was far more successful as the club was promotion to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking.

The defender was again a contender for Player of the Year and his perfromances contributed to a record breaking campaign for Latics.

Approaching 100 league appearances for Wigan, as of the end of the 2017-18 campaign, Burn is certainly becoming a club icon.
