Coventry City have signed former Shrewsbury Town captain

League One side Coventry City have swooped in for former Shrewsbury Town captain Abu Ogogo, confirmed by the club website.

The former Shrewsbury Town captain will officially join Coventry City upon the expiry of his contract with Shrewsbury on the 1st July 2018, having signed a three year-deal with the Sky Blues.

At the start of last season, the defensive midfielder was named captain of Shrewsbury Town and played a major part in their push for promotion to the Championship, but they ultimately fell just short in the Play-Off Final against Rotherham United.

Coventry City boss Mark Robins said this about signing Abu Ogogo: “We are delighted that Abu has chosen to sign for Coventry City.”

“He is a player with great ability and experience, and someone who is a natural leader both on and off the pitch. He is a real athlete and also brings a fantastic work rate and physicality, all of which makes him a brilliant capture for the club.”

“We look forward to Abu being an integral part of our squad.”

About Abu Ogogo –

The defensive midfielder has managed to make over 375 Football League appearances during his career. He rose through the ranks with Arsenal and their academy, a loan spell at Barnet attracted interest Dagenham & Redbridge, who completed the signing of the midfielder in 2009.

After making over 250 appearances during a six year spell with Dagenham, where he was named captain, Abu joined Shrewsbury Town ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Ogogo made more appearances for the club than any other player, and won both the Players’ Player of the Year and overall Player of the Year awards for his consistent displays in midfield during 2015–16.
