Portsmouth set to sign Newcastle youngster on loan

League One side Portsmouth are set to sign Newcastle youngster and former Blackpool loanee Sean Longstaff, according to Chronicle Live.

Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff is set for a move to League One side Portsmouth on a six-month loan deal.

Reportedly, the midfielder was wanted by a host of Sky Bet Championship club’s this summer and is believed to of held talks with newly-promoted Rotherham United.

But, it seems that Portsmouth and Kenny Jackett have won the race to sign the exciting midfielder until January and this could be a great bit of business by Pompey.

About Sean Longstaff –

The 20-year-old plays in the number ten role behind a striker, but can also capable of operating a deeper-lying position in midfield.

Longstaff managed to make his Under-18 debut against Arsenal in 2014 and his progression has developed quickly since then, first stepping up to the Under-21s for a Northumberland Senior Cup tie with Team Northumbria. He came on as a substitute and grabbed a hat-trick.

He is firmly established in the second string at Newcastle, Sean has become one of the Under-23s main goal threats, and he bagged another hat-trick side in a 5-1 Central League Cup victory over Hartlepool in 2016.

In January 2017, Sean joined Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season alongside teammates Freddie Woodman and Callum Roberts.

After returning to Tyneside, his signature was wanted once again and he signed for Blackpool on loan at the start of the 2017/18 campaign. Last season, he made 42 league appearances and scored eight goals and managed six assists for Blackpool.
