Ipswich Town set to raid Colchester for talented defender

Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town are weighing up a move for Colchester United defender Kane Vincent-Young, according to the Colchester Gazzette.

The 22-year-old, whose current deal at the JobServe Community Stadium runs out this summer, is yet to sign a new deal with the Essex side.

And Town are understood to be interested in the youngster. The Tractor Boys have previous experience with the defender as Town coach Bryan Klug’s worked with Vincent-Young during his time at Tottenham Hotspur’s academy.

Due to his age, Colchester United would be due compensation from the Tractor Boys should Vincent-Young make the, expected, decision to depart the Club for Portman Road.

The U’s had set a deadline for existing players to sign contracts, but the Essex side must begin preparing for life without Vincent-Young, Sam Walker and Sean Murray as the trio are yet to put pen to paper on new deals.

Vincent-Young became a regular fixture in John McGreal’s defensive line last season, helping the U’s achieve the joint sixth-best defensive record in the Sky Bet League Two.

Having joined the U’s following a time at Spurs’ academy where he endured a scholarship, the former Colchester under-23 player, has made 80 first-team appearances since his senior debut in 2015 – as well as being named Young Player of the Year at the Essex side’s recent awards night.

Vincent-Young also demonstrated his shooting ability as he collected the club’s Goal of the Season trophy for executing a wonderful individual effort in Colchester United’s 5-1 thrashing of League newboys Forest Green Rovers last August.
