Birmingham City in talks over £3million deal for midfielder

Birmingham City are “active on a midfielder” and it is believed to be around £3million deal, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Garry Monk is in talks with an unknown midfielder for around £3million but the deal may be doubtful according to Nixon.

Alan Nixon tweeted “Birmingham City. Active on a midfielder. 3m range. So there must be money. Don’t think they will get the chap all the same. But that’s an eye opener.

But it’s unclear who the midfielder is.

Midfielder’s who have been linked to Birmingham this summer –

Ogenyi Onazi – The 25-year-old central midfielder is a Nigerian international and could be heading to an unnamed English club for as little as €3.5m. Last year in September, Onazi outlined his ambitions to one day play in England, having reportedly come close to making the move to St Andrew’s under Harry Redknapp.

Marvin Johnson – The 27-year-old, who has links to staff at St Andrew’s, is thought to be surplus to requirements at The Riverside. Current Birmingham boss Garry Monk took Johnson from Oxford to Middlesbrough on transfer deadline last summer. He put pen to paper on a three-year deal for what was reported to be a £2.5m fee and he made a good start to life at Boro under Garry Monk, but has found it difficult since he left.

Birmingham’s need for a midfielder –

Garry Monk needs to bring a midfielder to St Andrew’s having released midfield duo Jason Lowe and Andrew Shinnie.

Lowe, 26, joined Birmingham from Blackburn Rovers on a one-year deal last August but managed to make only 11 appearances for the club.

He played just twice under Garry Monk, who arrived at St Andrew’s in March and guided Birmingham to Championship safety.

Scotland international Shinnie, 28, had not played for Blues for two years and spent the last two seasons on loan at Hibernian and Luton Town, helping Luton to promotion from League Two.
