Villa could pocket sizeable fee from sale of Boro winger

Aston Villa are hoping to pocket a sizeable fee from Sky Bet Championship rivals Middlesbrough this summer if the club opt to sell highly-rated winger Adama Traore according to Birmingham Live.

The 22-year-old Barcelona academy graduate could be poised to leave Teesside this summer with at least two clubs set to battle for his signature.

It has been reported that French giants Paris Saint-Germain are ready to meet the player’s £18 million automatic release clause while former English Premier League champions Chelsea have been watching the midfielder for a considerable amount of time.

Should Traore leave Boro, it is believed that Aston Villa will stand to receive a significant portion of the transfer value, a sum which could help the club in their ongoing battle to stave off the threat of administration.

Traore moved from Villa to Middlesbrough in August 2016 and signed a four-year deal at The Riverside Stadium. The player made just 11 appearances in all competitions for Villa as they slipped through the relegation trapdoor in 2015/2016.

These are desperate times at Villa Park with the club feeling the pinch after failing to secure a return to the English Premier League. The club must wipe out a significant portion of the wage bill to ensure that they do not go into financial meltdown. Any fee received from the possible sale of Boro ace Traore would at least boost their finances in the short term.
