Leeds United yet to meet asking price for Birmingham City goalkeeper

Leeds United are still chasing Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale, but the Whites are yet to meet the asking price set by the Midlanders, according to the Birmingham Mail.

David Stockdale looks set to leave St Andrews this summer and Leeds United are in pole position to sign the goalkeeper.

Last season’s number one Felix Wiedwald recently departed Elland Road and Marcelo Bielsa will be tasked with finding a new number one for next season.

The Yorkshire club are understand to have tabled a bid for the former Brighton man, but it is still way off the valuation set by the Blues.

Stockdale still has two years remaining on his current contract with Birmingham, after signing a 3 year deal last summer.

Garry Monk has informed Stockdale that he is free to leave the Midlands this summer, so long as the right offer comes in.

The 32 year old made 36 appearances in the Championship last season, and has experience of winning promotion from the second tier after finishing second with Brighton during the 16/17 campaign.

Wiedewaled failed to impress for Leeds last term after his move from Werder Bremen.

He shared the goalkeeping duties with Andy Lonergan and Bailey Peacock-Farrell, and a failure to establish a settled number one contributed to Leeds’ disappointing season.

The impressive performances of Peacock-Farrell have drawn the attention of newly promoted Wolves as they look for a new number two to Rui Patricio.

Stockdale looks set to depart Birmingham this season and Leeds are at the front of the que. Leeds will be looking for a new number one in a bid to boost their promotion chances and Stockdale could be the man to help them mount a promotion challenge next season.
