Leeds United are supposedly nearing a deal with Matej Vydra of Derby County – and as we reported earlier, journalist Alan Nixon tweeted to suggest that Leeds United have an alternative option in signing another forward – that isn’t Abel Hernandez and is a cheap option.
Although it seems a mystery, it could be clear that the striker is less than likely to be a big name that has been linked with Leeds United during this transfer window.
Leeds United fans are worried the striker could be Jerry Mbakogu of Carpi FC that Nixon is referring to, a player the Whites’ fans seem less than keen to Elland Road.
Cagliari News 24 have reported that Carpi are looking to retain striker Federico Melchiorri’s signature at the club after a loan spell from Cagliari this season and with the forward priced at a reported €1.3 million, Carpi supposedly need to sell Mbakogu to free up some funds to enable the striker to move to Carpi.
Because of this, the club have slashed a potential fee that Leeds United could have been expected to pay down to just £3.5 million – which although Leeds United fans seem far from excited about Mbakogu, he would certainly arrive on the cheap.
Mbakogu is only 25 and has scored 28 goals in 92 games for Carpi, highlighting the fact that he does have goals in him and if he is to realise his potential at Leeds United, should he move to Elland Road, he could be a very promising signing.
Whether Nixon is referring to Mbakogu, it’s unclear. But if he is, it could be an interesting few days for Leeds fans – who may end up with Vydra, or a relatively unknown forward in their side.
