After a disastrous season for Sunderland last campaign, the Black Cats suffered back to back relegations and now find themselves in the third tier of English football. Here are three players that new Sunderland boss Jack Ross should sign to secure instant promotion back to the Championship.
Mohamed Eisa, Cheltenham Town – Eisa had an outstanding first season in professional football with Cheltenham after his move from Greenwich Borough. The 23 year old notched 23 goals for the Robins last campaign as he excelled in a poor Cheltenham team. His pace and attacking threat are key aspects to his game and are qualities that were absent from the Sunderland team last season. He was only behind Marc McNulty and Billy Kee in the goalscoring charts last season and should definitely be considered by the Black Cats.
Michael McGovern, Norwich City – After the departures of Jason Steele to Brighton and Lee Camp returning to Cardiff City, Sunderland are left with just one experienced goalkeeper in Robbin Ruiter. Ruiter struggled in his first season in English football and Sunderland can not afford to let the same mistakes happen next campaign. McGovern is an experienced goalkeeper who has been told he can leave by Norwich City and could go straight in at number 1 at the Stadium of Light. He featured 20 times for the Canaries over a 2 year spell, and has also made 28 appearances for the Northern Irish national side.
Graham Carey, Plymouth Argyle – Carey was one of the main reasons as to why Plymouth almost made the Playoffs last season. The Scotsman registered 14 goals and 12 assists last campaign as he carried on his fine form from the season before. His versatility is a key part of his game, as he can play on the wing or as an attacking midfielder. He is a player who knows the league, and knows how to perform at League One level, He is someone that would fit in seamlessly in Wearside.
