It has emerged earlier today that Leeds United are linked with Spanish defender, Jon Aurtenetxe from Dundee, according to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post. But who exactly is he?

The Leeds United target started his career at Marcelo Bielsa’s old club, Athletic Bilbao, where he actually played under him for a spell. This move would reunite two footballing individuals who haven’t worked together since Bielsa left in 2013.

He spent a total of six long years at Bilbao where he really struggled to cement a permanent place in the first team starting XI. During the six years, he endured two loan spells away at Celta de Vigo and CD Tenerife in a frustrating spell for the 26-year-old. He made just 105 appearance while at Bilbao which is less than 18 appearances a season, on average. During these appearances, he scored five goals and assisted five. As well as picking up 21 yellow cards and one red card.

He transferred to Spanish clubs CD Mirandes and SD Amorebieta before he moved to Scottish Premiership club, Dundee. He’s spent just one season at Dundee and is getting released at the end of this month (June 2018). He played 17 times for Dundee and picked up just one yellow card.

If Leeds were to sign the Spaniard he would more than likely be a back-up to the defenders they currently have but what an excellent back-up to have at your disposal. He’s a good talent and I’m sure if he was to reunite with his old coach, the best would certainly be brought out of him.
