Opinion: Five players QPR should sign this summer

Steve McClaren is looking to bolster his newly inherited QPR side ahead of next season. Here are five players who he should sign this summer-

Chris Martin, Derby County- McClaren knows Martin well from when he managed him at Derby and should bring him to Loftus Road this summer. He has spent the last two seasons out on loan from the Rams at Fulham and Reading. Martin has scored 125 goals in 372 career league appearances.

Patrick Bauer, Charlton Athletic- The German centre-back played a key part in Charlton getting to the League One Play-Offs last season and is a solid defender. QPR are in need of some defensive reinforcements after Nedum Onuoha’s departure and Bauer would be a good replacement.

David McGoldrick- He was released by Ipswich Town at the end of the season and QPR should snap up. The former Nottingham Forest and Coventry City striker has scored goals at Championship level in the past and would offer QPR another option in attack.

Callum McManaman, Sunderland- QPR should offer him a lifeline in the Championship after Sunderland’s relegation to League One. He was a promising talent at Wigan Athletic but his career has petered out at West Brom and now Sunderland. McManaman is a talented winger and should get his career back on track at QPR.

Tommy Elphick, Aston Villa- His long-term future at Villa Park is in doubt and QPR should try and sign him. He spent last season on loan at Reading and could leave Villa on loan again, which would be an option for Steve McClaren. Elphick captained Bournemouth to promotion to the Premier League in 2016.
