Sunderland want loan deal for Premier League defender

Sunderland are keen on a loan move for Wolves defender Cameron John, according to the Chronicle.

The 18-year-old is highly-rated by Premier League new boys Wolves but could leave this summer  on loan to gain some more first-team experience.

John played 13 games for Wolves’ Under-23 squad last season but has not played for their first-team yet. He joined the Midlands club from League One side Southend United and is considered a long-term option for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

John could be on his way to League One side Sunderland over the coming weeks as the Black Cats are showing an interest in the promising youngster. Their new manager, Jack Ross, is looking to bolster his squad ahead of next season as he looks to mount a promotion push.

Sunderland could be set to lose Paddy McNair to Middlesbrough and defender Lamine Kone is also expected to leave them this summer after their relegation to the third tier. Therefore, John is an option for Ross to boost his defensive options.

The Black Cats are still yet to make a signing in this transfer window but are confident to get some deals over the line before they return to pre-season. Ross has been linked with some players he has worked with in the past, such as Barnsley’s Stevie Mallan, Celtic’s Lewis Morgan and St Mirren’s Kyle Maggenis. Wolves’ Cameron John is a new target for them.
