West Brom, West Brom reject £12m bid from Premier League club

West Brom reject £12m bid from Premier League club

West Brom have rejected a bid worth £12 million for striker Jay Rodriguez from Burnley according to the Daily Mail.

Although this was said to be an ‘opening bid’ as such, to test the waters on how much it will take to secure  Baggies striker Rodriguez, it’s unclear as to how much Burnley are prepared to offer for the West Brom strikers signature.

Rodriguez played for Burnley before moving to Southampton and it’s thought that Sean Dyche has shown interest in the ex-Burnley man to try and bolster his squad ahead of what will be a demanding season with the Clarets facing a lot of extra games in Europe. Notoriously, teams who qualify for a European competition for the first time often tend to struggle in the league, so by having better squad depth, Burnley would be able to endure a European campaign, whilst still looking to progress in the Premier League.

Darren Moore will be incredibly reluctant to sell one of his prized assets, but with Burnley having a plenty of money to return with another offer and with West Brom supposedly wanting the signature of Burnley striker Nahki Wells, some form of swap deal could be potentially agreed between the two clubs.

It’s unclear as to whether West Brom want to hold onto the striker, regardless of the offer for the player or if they are prepared to sell should the club receive a decent bid for the striker. Rodriguez will most likely cost a relatively hefty sum anyway and it’s likely Burnley will come back with a bigger offer.
