Coventry City set to sign Chelsea defender

Coventry City are set to sign young Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling on a season long loan deal, according to The Mirror. 

The Sky Blues gained instant promotion back to League One last season as they defeated Exeter 3-1 in the Playoff Final.

The 18 year old defender can often operates as a right wing back, but can play as a right winger if need be.

He has impressed during his time with the Chelsea youth team, and the Blues are set to send him to Coventry in order to gain some valuable first team experience.

The Sky Blues currently only have one recognised right back at the club, after they released academy product Dion Kelly-Evans.

Jack Grimmer is Coventry’s first choice right back and Sterling will provide stern competition for the Scotsman.

Grimmer had a fantastic first season in the West Midlands, as he was voted in the PFA Team of the Year, and scored the Sky Blues third goal at Wembley.

Coventry have a reputation of developing young talent due to the Club’s financial situation, so it could be the perfect place for Sterling to continue to develop.

The youngster has been given the number 66 by Antonio Conte, but he has yet to make his first team debut at Stamford Bridge.

He has been capped by England at a number of youth levels, and has scored one goal for the U19’s in 20 appearances.

Sterling looks set to join the Sky Blues this summer as they aim for back to back promotions going in to the League One campaign.
