Former Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire impressed in his World Cup debut for England yesterday.

The Three Lions gained a valuable three points against Tunisia after a last gasp header from Harry Kane. Maguire caught the eye for England and looks to be an important player for them for the tournament.

The Leicester City centre-back started his career at Sheffield United and rose through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane. The 25-year-old played 166 times for the Blades, scoring 12 goals.

Maguire was a popular player for Sheffield United and the fans relished having a local player playing for their club. He left them in 2014 to join Hull City in the Premier League and has not looked back since.

The 6ft 4inc defender still regularly watches the Blades and his former club will be proud to see one of their own bossing it on the World Cup stage. They will be hoping that he can be part of a team that makes history in Russia this summer.

Here is how the Sheffield United fans reacted on Twitter to Harry Maguire’s performance for England against Tunisia yesterday in the Three Lions’ first game of the tournament-
