Long throw legend Rory Delap closes in on Stoke City return

The Stoke Sentinel reports that Rory Delap is set to return to Stoke City on their coaching staff. New Stoke boss Gary Rowett wants to bring the Irishman with him to the bet365 Stadium. Delap is current the Derby Under-18 coach.

In addition to that, Callum Davidson, the current assistant manager at St Johnstone, is primed to be appointed to Rowett’s backroom staff too. The pair played together during their time at Leicester City. Having Delap around the place again will please Stoke fans, who adored Delap for his famous accurate throw ins.

Andy Quay will be staying as goalkeeping coach, meaning Kevin Poole won’t be reunited with Rowett again on this occasion.

Rowett though says that talks to bring new members of staff from Derby continue, as well as others from elsewhere,

“It was something that was negotiated when I came into the club, to be allowed to speak to some of those backroom staff (at Derby).

“Some of those backroom staff at Derby we are speaking to, both clubs know about that, and some of those people we would hope to get to the point where we could move forward and they could be Stoke City staff.

“But it’s not just those, there’s also people outside we are looking at.”

Elsewhere, Rowett also spoke about the latest news on the player recruitment front. He is adamant that the club supporters shall be excited if they can get some of their intended targets over the line. Some of their stars currently playing at the World Cup this summer are likely to try and force through moves away, such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Jack Butland.
